Overview
Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, Carolina Voices’ Festival Singers will explore vocal music with themes of humanity’s relationship with the earth. Selections for this concert include There Will Come Soft Rains by Eriks Esenvalds. A striking impressionistic setting of the Teasdale poem for 8 part a cappella voices, this piece focuses on the cyclical patterns in nature: despite humanity's penchant toward violence, the rain will come and spring will begin again. Featured will be The Peace of Wild Things, Wendell Berry’s poem set to music by Jake Runestad who states, “When we are so caught up in our human-centered existence, Berry reminds us how the wild things around us ‘do not tax their lives with forethought of grief.’” Nature so wild and raw and, yet, so simple and orderly.
