Overview

It should come as no surprise that Sirens, the third album from Virginia rock band Sons of Bill, opens up with an apocalyptic quote from William Faulkner’s Nobel Prize acceptance speech. The three brothers Sam, Abe, and James are in fact the three eldest sons of William Wilson, a Faulkner expert, musician, and long-time professor of theology and southern literature at the University of Virginia. Faulkner’s quote perfectly sets the stage for what is to follow with Sirens– what one critic described as an anthemic rock and roll journey that “bleeds with pathos, regret, anger, and longing, balanced by hope and determination… an intricate, intelligent rock album layered with meaning.” Garnering comparisons to Springsteen and REM’s early records, it’s clear that the young band of brothers are diligent students of an older generation of rock and roll, as well as the traditional music of the Virginia region. Debuting at #12 among new artists on Billboard’s top 200, and with a live show known to evolve from acoustic ballads into sweaty stage dives, it’s clear the Sons of Bill have hit an arrival point. In the words of Pennsylvania’s Daily News: “Flawlessly balancing the line between rock and alternative country, Sons Of Bill come into their own on stellar third full length Sirens … Here’s hoping Sirens is the record that brings Sons Of Bill the attention they so richly deserve.”
