Overview

Two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, freedom was finally realized for all enslaved people of the United States. Juneteenth is a joyous national celebration of that historic moment. This year, Blumenthal’s first annual Juneteenth Jam joins this celebration of freedom with two days of music, dance and art highlighting African American history and culture.

Conceived by Emmy Award winning poet and Blumenthal Director of Creative Engagement Boris “Bluz” Rogers, Juneteenth Jam! will spill across multiple Uptown locations  and feature live music, interactive dance sessions by Reba Bowens & Ginga Capoeira, and an installation of the famous "DuragFest" – a true Charlotte staple created by Dammit Wesley of Blk Mrkt Clt.

AJ Glasco, dance director for We Are Hip Hop, will curate a hip hop performance featuring several Charlotte artist like Reliable Brother and Jordan.

Come thru June 18th-19th, for an immersive, artist-filled celebration highlighting the history, joy, and significance of Juneteenth.

All events are FREE and fun is guaranteed. Join us for the DJ mixes and artistic vibes that are sure to educate, entertain and get the whole family jammin’!
