Overview

The Next Step is a culmination of dance repertoire the company has built since it’s inception in 2012. The concert presents 9 works, showcasing one world-premiere, two Charlotte-premieres, a film for dance piece, and the very first piece created for the company’s repertory, all nestled between a collection of audience favorites. The title for this concert depicts THE MARK’s advancement into ‘the next step’ within their career.

THE Mark has selected a variety of works that showcases the diversity of the company, both stylistically and through content. In this concert the audience will appreciate the inclusion of modern (classical and non-classical), contemporary, jazz, and even some inspiration from Butoh-esque forms of movement. The audience will also get to watch the company work with a variety of props, using chairs, a portable ballet barre, and a large piece of fabric, all manipulated in non-conventional ways. THE MARK has also provided a variety of themes portraying topics including: geometric mathematics, women within the business world, renaissance art/architecture, the 2011 Japanese Tohoku tsunami/earthquake, and even takes you behind the scenes into rehearsals, among other topics. This concert was designed to provide a wide example of works, and to touch-base with the many interests of audience members, providing something engaging for each patron to enjoy.
