Overview

The Echo Foundation 17th Annual Award Ceremony, Economics of Democracy, marks a night where Economics and Education become one. This year's Keynote Speaker, Dr. Ben Bernanke, Former Chairman, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System; and Distinguished Fellow in Residence, Economic Studies, Brookings Institution, will receive the inaugural Sandra & Leon Levine Medal For Life for his vision and leadership through one of the most difficult economic recessions. Additionally, President of the UNC System, Tom W. Ross, will receive the 2015 Echo Award Against Indifference for his unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and open access to excellent education.

Through cutting-edge educational programs, The Echo Foundation develops in young people the moral and intellectual tools necessary to effect positive change in their local and global communities. Echo's 2015 Initiative, Economics of Democracy: The Ben Bernanke Project, has taught students about the importance of a sound and just financial system so that all citizens have fair access to employment and the ability to support themselves. Each year, The Echo Foundation brings world-renown humanitarians to Charlotte to deliver messages that galvanize souls to action on behalf of humankind and encourage us to ask the question "What Can One Person Do?"
