Overview
The Arts & Science Council (ASC) will present Imagine 2025: Share the Vision, a creative and interactive arts event, featuring speakers in field of art, education, data, energy, design and health services. The event will be held Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the Booth Playhouse at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center (130 N. Tryon St.). Tickets are $25 and go on sale Aug. 1 at CarolinaTix.org. The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation is the presenting sponsor.
The event will feature presentations about the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for the cultural sector, performances to inspire members of the community and debate on how to support the cultural sector and its future. ASC will also release the results of the community’s cultural vision plan, Imagine 2025: A Vision for Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s 21st Century Cultural Development – a vison for how the cultural sector can contribute to the community’s vitality through building community, quality pre-K-12 education, lifelong learning, and program relevance and innovation.
Presenters include national leaders Dennis Scholl, Knight Foundation vice president for arts, and Aaron Dworkin, founder, Sphinx Organization and member of President Obama’s National Council on the Arts. More than eight additional speakers, including Dr. Jean Wright, chief innovation officer, Carolinas HealthCare System; Shaun Cassidy, associate professor of fine arts, Winthrop University; and Michael Ford, owner, Upstage NoDa, will share their perspectives on arts and culture. A performance by the 2014 ASC McColl Award winner Carlos Cruz will take place along with additional performances by local artists.
The event will be co-hosted by national radio host Sheri Lynch and Ryan Deal, local artist and associate vice president, ASC.
