I Capuleti e i Montecchi

Overview

Presented in collaboration with Wingate University, Mosaic-Arts is proud to present Bellini’s "I Capuleti e I Montecchi” based on the stories that inspired Shakespeare’s "Romeo & Juliet.” In this version Guilietta (Juliet) is betrothed to Tebaldo (Tybalt).  Tebaldo declares war on Romeo, leader of the Montecchi, for killing Guilietta’s brother.  The lovers are helped by Lorenzo, the doctor, but ultimately thwarted by Capellio, leader of the Capuleti and father to Guilietta.  Sung in Italian with English supertitles.
