Overview
A sharecropper’s daughter and a truant from the rough streets of Harlem, Althea Gibson emerged as a most unlikely queen of the highly segregated tennis world in the 1950. No player, overcame more obstacles than Althea Gibson; the first African-American (male or female) to play at (and win) Wimbledon and the US Open.
Part of the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers. Presented by The Batte Center, Union County Community Arts Council, and South Arts. Presented in McGee Theatre at Wingate University.
